NETIQUETTE: EMPOWERING DIGITAL YOUTH
19th - 26th of August 2018
Pärnu, Estonia
We have etiquette rules for every situation for correct social behaviour. As young people are staying "online" 24/7, therefore we need to follow etiquette rules online in other words - netiquette rules. Netiquette is defined as a set of rules that determinate how to properly communicate and browse the web. One part of netiquette is online safety - phishing attempts, malware infections etc. Other part is communication such as e-mail, blogs, forum, vlogs, social media websites etc.
Netiquette rules are not only for feeling and being safe on the web, it can actually give tools for empowering youth. For example, if young people use the netiquette rules everyday while communicating, then they seem more professional and mature, when they have corrected spelling, grammar and punctuation in place. Following netiquette will help young people to develop positive online reputation and of course maintain and establish positive online relationships.
